I joined Spark almost 4 years ago, with an online buddy. I got off to a fast start and lost 10 pounds in a few weeks. I learned how to use the equipment at the gym, started walking longer distances and tracked my food. That summer at my annual checkup I was down 29 pounds and was no longer borderline diabetic. The following year my Spark friends made me a SparkPeople Motivator and one of my groups made me Done Girl of the Day. I replaced my size 18 capris with size 14. At the annual company BBQ I danced all night. I was 10 pounds away from hitting a major milestone of of 199 pounds. That June I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. Being away for treatment and the recovery time got me out of my routine.
6 months later I tried to get back into the 'losing' lifestyle and I am still struggling. Today at 216 pounds, I lose a few pounds, gain them back and repeat the cycle. I know what worked before was being consistent with my good habits. I tracked my food, I exercised daily, and stayed in my calorie range. I was CONSISTENT!
Maybe I forgot how much effort it took when I was learning things in Spark, trying new foods, recipes, tracking food and exercise. Maybe it was a struggle then too. But what made me stick with it?
Day 1 Grade B for getting started
Day 2 Grade B for consistency
Day 3 Grade B for trying to figure what is wrong
This week I am tracking my food with the intention making it a lasting habit.
