It has been a while since I have blogged and I thought it would be good for me to put down the things that I learned over the course of 2011.
1. You Can't Be Lazy Without Repercussions- the last 2 months of the year, I slowly got lazy and allowed myself to overindulge. The results.....20 pounds. When I looked back over my notes and blogs, it took me over 3 months to lose that last 20 pounds and I re-gained it in less time! So my lesson is an occasional treat is fine....not 8 weeks worth! ( I loss 4 of that 20 so far :))
2. Not Everyone is Going to be Your Cheerleader- this lesson was at times surprising and difficult to comprehend. One would like to think that their love ones, friends, and heck even many of the co-workers would wish them well and encourage them in their journey. That is NOT always the case and many times not the case long term. I had folks who initially seemed supportive, that down the road were not. Almost like they thought after a couple months I'd get over myself ?!? I had love ones that were annoyed that the meals I served at MY house only contained healthy choices. What I learned- screw them! If those near and dear cannot want what is best for you.....tell them to eat at McDonalds BEFORE they come over!
3. I Must Have NOT Looked That Great Before- when I think back to 2010, was anyone telling me how great I looked or notice an improvement in my personality? Uhhhhhhhhhh, no. Now I admit, when you lose a lot of weight, people may notice. But now I get compliments on my hair, my clothes....gosh everything. Which tells me....I must look better, if and that isn't true, then it is that I feel better and that is reflected in my appearance and manner.
4. Exercise is NOT Only for the Young- in my 20's I was always active. I walked, went to aerobic classes, the gym, swimastics, etc... My 30's and most of my 40's I was a lump. I felt that an overweight, middle aged chick wasn't really athletic. I was wrong! This past year I have walked ( as much as 6 miles a day), hiked ( for hours!), and biked (that was a sight lololol). I went to Zumba and the gym. And if I looked outta place, I was sweating too much to notice :)
I could blather on forever, but the above comments encompass what I have gleaned from 2011. I am looking forward to accomplishing goals in 2012 and perhaps trying some new activities :)
