How about this weather folks!

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Just had to comment on this unseasonable weather we have been having lately. I walked in the fields for the 4th. day in a row, sunny, no wind and in the 50's, know it can't last, supposed to get snow in the AM. but enjoying while it lasts. Sure makes the winter that much shorter.
Over our Christmas S# 3 asked if I had any secret desires that I wanted to accomplish before the Lord is ready for me. Not exactly his words but my interpretation. I said I always wanted to retrace my GGF's steps from the letters that we possess that he wrote to his parents while serving in the Civil War from 1861 to late 1864. He called my bluff and along with the other 3 brothers are planning a March march on Atlanta. I'm sure glad they share my interest in History, especially when it's our own blood. As I reread these letters it makes you realize the hardship that they encountered. It starts Aug. 9th. at Champaign Il. and ends at East Bend, Il. Sept. 9th.. I have only one picture of him which he had taken after walking 5 miles to Nashville Tenn. Dec. 1862. When I touch the picture the History just comes alive. I will post it when i figure out how.
Looking forward to keeping everyone who are interested abreast to the trip.
History is in us all, don't let it die a secret.

My great grand daddy marched with Sherman...we just have one letter preserved. I like the way they used ever inch of space...upside down and around.

Hey Skeeter! Long time since I visited you! thought I'd come and return the visit since you came by me today! :)

Oh I think that is a great thing to do with the history! A journey like that is a wonderful thing to do and it passes it on the next generation! Get a scanner for that photo - they are so cheap these days and so easy to install via USB cable...and it will probably load the hardware all on its own with very little effort on your part!

Wow! How neat regarding the march! how proud you must be :)

I've been loving the warmer than usual January temps, but for us, we are now covered in snow. I'm hoping for a quick return to the unusually warm temps!!

Good for you and your children. I had planned on taking a road trip this spring to Kansas and back to retrace the route my Dad's family took to Oregon during the dustbowl/depression. Only my kids gave me airplane tickets to Texas to visit my Sis instead, so may wait till next spring. We shall see. Have a great time with your family exploring your family history. I used a digital camera and just took a picture of the old picture, then downloaded it on the computer. I look forward to seeing your photo.

We had 68 last Thursday and this Thursday, it's 9F with 30mph winds. Like we say in SD: if you don't like the weather, just wait
