If this scale could really talk!

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

So, we have a talking scale...it's a "she" , and only has a few phrases.. "Hello", "It's ready", then gives your weight, then after a pause, "Goodbye". My daughter bought it, for us...as we had trouble reading the old one. I avoided it at first...I didn't want it saying "One person at a time, please" or "Oh my, are you wearing a suit of armour?" or even a "Yikes, 360 lbs!" But she doesn't editorialize. No pithy comments. She does seem given to long pregnant pauses, before announcing the weight....as if shaking her digital head in sympathetic wonder.

But we have come to be almost friends...as I apologise to her, or say my own "Yikes!", or last few times, a hesitant "Are you sure?". Because after being stuck in this 5 lb. window for almost a year, the numbers are slowly getting lower. At least mine are...hubby's went up 4 lbs since Thanksgiving...mine dropped 13 lbs.

I do think a really TALKING scale, who is sensible and sensitive, could be a real plus. Like small smart comments...."Maybe you should think about taking a long walk this evening?" Or a "Cheesecake is not your friend" "Have you exercised this week, month, year, millennium?"

For now I'll just be satisfied that she is chiming out lower numbers finally! emoticon emoticon

Oh you are too funny! I have avoided those talking scale for the same reasons you stated and I also worried it would say "This scale is not for livestock".

Great job on the weight loss!!! emoticon emoticon

Very funny. I would like my scale to have a better overall picture of me. The weight is a tool to not gain any more and I need other indicators... so it would be nice if it said "I notice your clothes are looser" or wow, you've gained some muscle. Ha.

Nice blog.

That sounds like a very helpful scale! It's quite bad enough to me that I have to see those numbers, though. Yay to you for those numbers going down! emoticon

My scale doesn't talk, but if it could it would probably say things like...Please take your backpack off...or When was your last pedicure?...or Please go sit down...or Swearing won't help...Losing weight is a LONG process. I have to keep reminding myself that I didn't just wake up one morning at 263 lbs. I joined SP at 248lbs. on Dec. 4th & I'm down to about 230 this morning...I want to be 150 yesterday. Do take care of yourself & don't beat yourself up...

Don't get too excited by my Nov.6th to Jan.6th : 13 lb. loss...My total loss for the whole of 2011 was only 16 lbs...because I went up and down 5 lbs over and over!! And am still so huge that 16 lbs isn't even a drop in the bucket.
I just need the strength to not slip back into old comfey habits, and motivation to up the exercise minutes...

Ahh, Theresa...a talking scale? I didn't know they existed, but why not...we have talking everything else. Well, I think you're doing so well and I'm so happy for you with such a great loss!! emoticon Keep on doing whatever you're doing and maybe that scale will start saying more really great things like, "Wow! You're doing an awesome job!" emoticon I think I'm gonna get me one of those scales! Love, Jeannie

I'm sorry to say Theresa but I don't want your scale as my sons would be so shocked if they heard what I weigh now as it's the big secret I keep from them--LOL! Wow, you've lost 13#s and I've gained at least 4 of them, please give them to charity but not to me anymore. I always love your blogs and posts as you keep me in stitches time after time and I need more LOLs in my life. Wishing you continued success as you are wonderful and I want you and I to end this year in a good Weight loss.

Love,

Jill

I think it would be funny to get a talking GPS an attitude.
Really - like "How did you miss that turn?"

My scale groins when I get on it and it is not a talking scale. I think I am killing it slowly (and if the numbers don't start getting better I may speed up the process).

Hi Theresa! It's bad enough my scale has a big blue flashing number when the weight registers, let alone shouting it our for my cats to hear. LOL! But 13 pounds since Thanksgiving???? That's wonderful! WOOHOO for YOUHOO!!!!

Hugs, Pattie
