Blog redo for the day.

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

I already did today's blog, but you know what? I realised that I needed to do it again.

I was reading back in old blogs as I frequently do just to get a bit of perspective. Reading about how proud I was that I'd managed to run for 2 lots of 3 minutes at a time at a MUCH slower pace than I run now was a big memory jolt. Not about how much I've achieved but how hard I had to work to get here.

I've lost a lot of fitness in the last 6 months. A LOT. I wasn't the fittest at my unit when I arrived, after all, a lot of them are 5 years my junior or more! But I certainly wasn't the least fit either. Now I can, without a doubt, say that I'm the least fit.
I go back to work in 6 days time. Not to regular with the physical training instructors (I hope, man one of them HATES me because I'm not an incredible fitness freak!) but to regular scheduled times at least. The thing that worries me is that when my next course starts it's at an Army base, and the PT is completely different. It's every day for a start, and I can imagine that I'm going to be slaughtered by the end of it.

The reason I'm worried is because I'm going to have to work DAMN hard in the next few months to play catch up. I don't know how long I'll be waiting, but the way I'm beginning to look at it is, the longer the better! Tomorrow I'm going for a 5k run and I'll be gunning for a personal best. Since I started here at any rate. So far the fastest I've managed is 31:10, and that is just plain NOT GOOD ENOUGH! When I left my last unit, I could manage 12:19 for a 2.4km. I reckon I can't even do a 2.4km in 14 minutes at the moment, and that's the bare minimum I'm supposed to achieve.

I WILL FIX THIS.
