I was watching TV the other night when one of those god-awful Activia commercials came on. One thing caught my attention though, the mention of eating activia three times a day. Who eats three yogurts a day? I did a bit of googling and apparently there has been a diet study where folks drop 500 calories and add 3 yogurt servings. Of course if we drop 500 calories a day even if we are adding yogurt we will lose some weight but the difference was the folks eating the yogurt dropped belly fat and maintained more muscle. Muscle mass helps us burn calories so when dieting we don't want to lose that because it makes it even more of an uphill battle. Win-win, right?
So I'm trying it out. I am not doing activia since it doesn't even have as many live cultures as other yogurts. The yogurts I'll be trying are: Stonyfield Organics 0% probiotic (sweetened with Stevia), Chobani Greek, and Fage 0%. Now just because the other yogurts don't say probiotic does not mean they do not have live cultures. Read your yogurt cups for more specific information but all of these have just as many benefits as activia, maybe more with organic calorie free sweeteners like Stevia.
Yesterday was my first day of my yogurt-centric diet and by the time we were ready for dinner I was still pretty satisfied from all the protein and calcium rich dairy I had so there wasn't any difficulty maintaining smaller portion sizes. Today it looks like I'm down a pound. I'll keep you updated.
