I'm on day 21 of an exercise streak -- sometimes just 10 minutes a day. I have more energy and less stress. Since we've added yoga to our morning routine again, I have less back pain. So why do we keep letting life get in the way of exercising?
My goal this year is to continue exercising and put my health before my career. Having more patience and energy (as a result of exercising) may be more help to my students than getting graded work back to them in two days. It's definitely more help than spending time making PowerPoint presentations pretty. If the facts are on the presentation, I need to go to the gym rather than skipping the gym and sitting at the computer. If I have enough time to make the presentation pretty AND exercise, that will be time to add the frills.
My little bit of weight loss and the changing numbers on the tape measure and blood pressure cuff show me that these adjustments are necessary, worth while and effective. Now it's just a matter of sticking to them.
