Losing 2011

Saturday, January 07, 2012

Happy New Year!

I am so glad that 2011 is over. It was an injury, accident, disaster filled year. By the end, I kind of looked like one of the zombies in “the Walking Dead” but with slightly better hair and makeup. (Well on most days.)

At the end of 2011, I finally was able to get back on my bike and start working out. Then something sparked in my reptilian brain. It doesn’t do that very often.

Three things came to mind:
I missed cycling and exercise. (When I don’t exercise, I get tired, zombie-like and can eat corn chips for dinner before I pass out in front of the TV.)

My bike pants didn’t fit. (Spandex is a cruel mistress.)

I needed to get back on Sparkpeople.

The truth will set you free. I finally went to the gym to weigh myself. Yes, I am precisely 12 pounds over my maintenance weight. One stinking pound for every lousy month of my awful 2011. emoticon emoticon

The fact that last year has settled on my stomach and thighs is pretty rude! (The nerve!) emoticon emoticonThe fact that I have to think about last year every time I try to squeeze into Spandex (don’t ask). Or the fact that I LOVE sweatpants and flannel PJs right now. But I probably can’t wear these to meetings at work. Not even on casual Friday.

So, 2011 has got to GO! It is officially last year. It is last season. And I am finished carrying around last year’s baggage.

I've been there, on the operation table and injured. I understand the physical pain but it's the mental that hurts the most.. Need some positive words or ideas, I'm here for you.

Listen to your body and adapt. You will be better than ever.

At least you had good hair!

I am happy it's 2012 too. Pushed out a couple of discs in my back and tore a calf muscle in 2011 and gained back some of that hard lost weight, too. Looking forward to an injury free year getting back into shape.

I loved reading this! Such a great blog and true, honest words coming out. Bike shorts are definitely not forgiving....some days I'd like to wear my fleece-laying around the house-pants, on my rides! Loved your humor too! emoticon emoticon

Ha! You make me smile. Spandex IS a cruel mistress... one I can't even dream of encountering right now. Is it weird to say that a pair of Spandex shorts is on my goal list? :)

Good to hear you are over all your troubles and ready to get back to Spark. We all have setbacks, although usually not as catastrophic as yours!
Glad you're "well' in time for biking season. emoticon
