He would have been 70 years old today

Thursday, January 05, 2012

I miss my Dad.

He was born on January, 6 in 1942 and has to escape into the mountains as a two-year old when the Germans burned everything. How things have changed during his lifetime and how I miss him...

I'm still working on finding the right balance between online and life, between work and private, still missing and grieving, but have started a small streak of tracking and getting back to normal workouts.

You will see more of me here eventually.

    Dear Marit,

I haven't been around much, but I happened to see your blog title and it caught my attention, since I will be 70 in seven weeks and I am vividly aware of my mortality.

I have no living nuclear family. I understand your grief, having been through it most recently with the sudden death of my beloved 56-yr. old brother. Balance, always the challenge and more so, during personal crisis. My slight awareness of you and knowledge of you through our *sisters* leads me to see your ability to move through this difficult period with grace and consciousness.

I then scrolled down to the prior blog and read about the service itself for your beloved father. It sounds like it was exactly right in all ways. And I love his taste in music...and have albums by all the artists you named, including the exquisite Jan Garbarek with the Hilliard Ensemble (and ahhhhh -- In Praise of Dreams). And how perfect was Veejay's offering of Eva Cassidy's rendition of Autumn Leaves. Yes, perfect.

Be blessed and find peace in the new year,
Maha

Just take it easy. You'll never stop missing him but it will hit you less frequently and painfully eventually. Promise. Been there.

Hugs from here.

Awww I know you're sad and I think that is normal. You are having a lot of firsts without your Dad there. You take care of yourself and let yourself grieve.
Take care my friend !!!

So sorry... by coincidence, yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of my FIL's death, so I completely understand how you are feeling. My husband commented last night "I think I am just starting to be able to think about him without getting upset" -- the greatest gift that you can give him is to take time to remember the good times!

Big hug to you!

I can only imagine how hard it is. I think Ramona is right about taking your time. There's no schedule to adhere to...you feel the way you feel. Of course you miss your Dad. I hope your happy memories can help you through your sadness.

    Dearest Marit,

I'm glad you're sharing here... and take your time. It's hard to balance when your foundation is shaken.

I pray this provides a little comfort:

"I have only slipped away into the next room, I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Play, smile, think of me. All is well.
~ Henry Scott Holland (shortened from What is Death?)"
