I'm tired.....

Thursday, January 05, 2012

Yeah, not alot of sleep the last couple of days. I mean, I slept the night before last but I was supposed to switch to sleep during the day today and failed, miserably. That's ok, though. My entire shift will be right there with me. Part of my no sleep is I have misplaced my sleep mask. My window faces south and east, so I get all the morning and afternoon sun in there. It makes it down right impossible to sleep during the day. So, off to buy a new sleep mask before I go to bed in the morning.

On a positive note, the kids are going to my parents' for the weekend. It will be the first kid free time at my house since my mother got breast cancer over a year and a half ago. She's finally feeling well enough to watch the kids so Cody and I can have some well deserved and needed "us" time. Not sure what we will be doing for dinner but I do want to go watch the new Sherlock Holmes movie. I LOVE Robert Downie Jr and the first movie rocked. I hope this one is as good.

Oh, Saturday I will be devoting part of the day to some well deserved "me" time as well. I'm thinking that mid afternoon I will try to convince the hubs to go with me for a walk. And when I say walk, I mean 5 miles round trip. I have a 10k to do at the end of January. I know I can't run it, but I want to walk it as quickly as possible. Maybe I can get his help with that.

Here's to a fitness and fun filled weekend.

This picture pretty much describes my year so far in regards to working out. As in, I haven't done any. Oh wells. I'll get back on track soon enough.

On a positive note, I weighed in on the 1st at 152 lbs. Today's weight was 151 and that was after I ate something so it might actually be closer to 150. So even though I'm not really exercising, I am eating right which is making me lose as well. My goal is 26 pounds lost by the end of April. Let's do this.

I can sympathize with the sleep issue. I work midnights, which I enjoy - I swear it actually gives me more time with the kids than if I worked daylight - but the sleep is the hardest part. I've used a sleep mask before, they aren't bad, but nothing beats being able to make the room dark itself. If you can swing it - black the windows out. White felt and black linen fabric put back to back in the windows will block out the light, and make it look like you just have a white shade or blind in the window from outside.
Congrats on the "me" time - thats always a precious commodity - especially at our house :-)

Have a suggestion for the bedroom... a sleep mask is great, but putting aluminum foil on the windows is even better! With a mask, only the eyes see the dark the body is sill seeing the light. With the aluminum foil the dark is complete and the body also "knows" that it is dark and is "tricked" into allowing sleep. It has worked well for me, my son-in-law and other people I know who have used it. You'll get adjusted soon.

Don't discount the "unintended" exercise, like housework, yard work, and other things that DO count as exercise. You will probably find you do more than you think! Good luck on the 10k at the end of month!
