My roommates and I were talking about how basically 2011 was a horrible year for all of us. Tyler's Brother was killed in a car wreck, he lost his job and his wife divorced him and kept the house. Ross has a similar story except he still has his job, but he also has 2 kids that he is seeing a lot less of since he moved out. 2011 was a crushing year from start to finish, Jan 2 my mom died suddenly, the rest of the school year I barely limped through, the summer started off with the promise of new love which fizzled out, I gained 30 pounds in just those 8 months we were dating, and then it ended with an unexpected breakup the day before new years eve.
But the conversation was not as depressing as it sounds. We each told about how we want to change the direction our life was going and how we want to embrace everyday. We all want to be healthier, although Ross is pretty much a rock when it comes to his workouts but eats tons of crap. Tyler needs to gain some weight and some strength, and I need to drop a ton of weight, get out and get active again, and be done with the year of mourning that sucked out all my energy.
So we cleaned out all the junk from the cupboards, although Ross was unwilling to part with his sugary breakfast cereals LOL. We each picked something we wanted to try this year, not so much resolutions but more like goals. Ross wants to try base jumping off one of the huge bridges we have here in Idaho. Tyler wants to be able to climb every wall at the climbing gym he joined. I decided that I will hike to table rock 100 times this year. It is currently a feat for me to get to the top - about 2 hours round trip with many stops. I want to be able to do it in less than 1 hour and with no stops.
We also decided to do the Spring Sprint Triathlon, in April, as a team. Tyler will swim, I will ride, Ross will run. It should be fun to cheer each other on!
