Here are my goals for 2012 in a nutshell:
~Reach and maintain a weight of 142 pounds or less.
~Run at least 750 miles.
~Enter and run a 10K race.
~Experiment with the Galloway method to improve my running speed.
~Add more swimming and biking to my exercise program.
~Pursue more free-lance writing opportunites.
~Be debt-free, except for mortgage, by June 1.
~Spend as much time as possible with my dad, who has ALS.
In 2011, I had the goal of running 650 miles for the year. Around the beginning of November I realized I could probably make 700 miles if I pushed it just a little more. With the 6 miles I ran yesterday, I met that goal!
So for 2012 I want to set the bar higher, at 750 miles. I decided to make it more interesting by running from somewhere to somewhere, at least in my imagination! So then I thought, why not have the pleasure of running through the historic beauty of my dream destination, the British Isles? So I mapped out a (not very accurate) route that will take me from St. Ives to Bath to London to Norwich to Nottingham to Lincoln to Leeds to York in 766 miles.
Now while trotting along the county roads of Kansas, I can pretend I'm really running along the hedgerows and meadows of England with historic castles and churches and bridges along the way. And I'm already planning next year's "trip" running through Ireland and Scotland!
