Deepak Chopra's video entitled "Soul of Healing: Vol. 1" offers viewers a taste of insights and tools to broaden one's understanding of ancient wisdom that can be helpful in our modern world to heighten our state of well-being. It is a filmed presentation at Harvard Medical School.
In short, the film of 108 minutes gives practical advice on how to incorporate sound, taste, smell, touch and sight into your overall healing practices. Included are such tips as eating whole, colorful fruits & veggies, aromatherapy, self-massage, meditation, healing with sounds like ocean waves and the vibrations of bells, gongs or chants, breathing techniques, and so on.
Deepak has a medical background in neuro-endocrinology and is now an author, speaker and leader in holistic health. As a medical student, he remembers and recounts having a life-changing experience that shifted his outlook permanently regarding health & life. A patient of his, who he had just weened off of the ventilator, was caught smoking cigarettes through his trach tube at the canteen! After that, he realized that it wasn't just physical body that was involved in the healing process, but spiritual, mental & emotional elements factor in to our every day choices too. So he went about studying how ancient wisdom (from many spiritual practices) lines up with modern scientific evidence in improving health.
I give this holistic health film "3 out of 5" stars because of the practical advice, spiritual applications and straightforwardness of the film. I just came away knowing that even though Deepak does not share my faith in Jesus, that his research and presentation only solidifies the power, the creativeness and love of an awesome God who made our bodies with His infinite wisdom.
