Holidays are difficult times, I think. Friends and neighbors all mean well when they invite us - even expect us to participate in parties, gatherings, and events. They want to elevate our spirits during the dark days of winter. All the extra food, though, can sabotage our best efforts to stay on our diets. And the time required for parties and other special holiday events can sabotage our best efforts to stick to our sleep schedules. Together, this can be a combination that may result in weight gain.
The very best antidote I can think of is to work out. Whether at home or at a gym, getting active can result in burning off those extra calories, increasing your serotonin levels (making you feel happier), and preventing weight gain that otherwise might result in depression once the holidays are over.
