But not every positive reason is rational, right or yields the expected outcome especially if it is fueled by negativity. We have to decide which side of POSITIVE we want to be on.
Let me explain. Think about the Roman ruler Nero who mercilessly persecuted the Christians in the first century. He did this with the hopes that all traces Christianity would soon be wiped out. .
.Negative thought - -annihilate the Christians. . . . Nero's Positive (irrational) reasoning- - the world would be a better place because he would be the only one worshiped as lord and king by all peoples.
So what happened? UH . .just the opposite. Yes the early Christians were persecuted. They were oppressed and Christianity was suppressed and driven under ground only to resurface as the worlds leading religion of all times. How did that happen? To be sure, our loving Saviour and one and only Lord God Of All had a role in the preservation of Christianity and He used the evil intentions of the rulers of that day to carry it out.
Not only that, the Roman Empire of that day and age fell. BIG TIME. You can rest assure that this was not Nero's original intention.
Do dynamics like this play out in our everyday thought processes as well? You bet they do!!! Maybe it's your love of sweets. Or your need for comfort. Part of you wants to eat right, and exercise. . .the other part of you wants to eat any and everything and put exercise on the back burner.
Suppose, for example, you want to get rid of sugar or sweets in your diet. The very thing you are trying to get rid of in your life is fighting for survival. . .it may be driven under ground for a season, but you better believe that it will resurface when you least expect it to. You feel the tug of war in yourself. You've even proved this point to yourself with yo-yo dieting. One side wins for a while, then you gain the weight back and the other side wins for a while. . .is there any end? YES THERE IS.
Think about how you've sabotaged yourself with sweets, binges and salty snacks, or whatever food you crave and/or your lack of commitment to exercise.. . .THERE IS A POSITIVE UNDERGROUND REASON FOR YOUR NEGATIVE ACTIONS AND THOUGHTS. When you identify that reason you are well on your way to making your rome bow down to you!!!!!!
My personal example:
I like sweets because they are tasty, fun to eat, and enjoy and share with others. . .in other words I am seeking immense pleasure when I eat sweets. Sweets, on the other hand will negatively impact my body in ways that I did not intend them to if I continually indulge without discretion or if I binge or begin to eat them in secret. Not only that, it no longer gives me the immense pleasure I'm seeking if I behave this way. What am I learning from sweets? You got it!! SELF CONTROL. I AM KEEPING SWEETS IN MY LIFE TO LEARN SELF CONTROL.
Self Control is a godly attribute. . .worthy of pursuing and my sweet tooth is there to help me learn self control.
My personal rome no longer has the power to persecute me. Yes. . .baby, YOU'RE GOING DOWN.
