Day 53-- labs say I'm healthier, & shopping!

Ok, this is officially Day 53 of my juice fast, though as of last night I decided to modify it a bit to add some lean protein each day, whether that is a glass of lowfat milk with protein powder or a portion of lean meat or fish. I decided to give this a try because my weight loss slowed to about a lb a week, which is VERY slow for a juice fast, and at the same time some bloodwork I did showed that I was developing thyroid resistance, which was probably why I wasn't losing weight. That means that I have to get all the goitrogenic foods out of my diet, since they impede thyroid and slow down your metabolism-- so, no cabbage, kale, spinach, radishes, bok choi, and such (also broccoli, but I wasn't juicing that). Since I'm allergic to chard, that leaves me without much for greens to juice, and leafy greens are the main source of protein during the fast. I've asked a nutritionist about this, but haven't heard back, so until I do, I am adding protein, even if that means dealing with eating a bit & throwing the fast off in that way.

That said, I am down 22 lbs overall since I started on Oct 26, and my cholesterol is under 200 now for the first time in my life since I first had it measured at 22 years old (it was 240 then even though I was thin-- I was told I had hereditary issues with processing cholesterol-- but that wasn't the whole story, obviously). My LDL dropped from 186 to 135, and triglycerides are down in a very healthy range. My BP was up before too, & has normalized, as has my blood sugar. Very pleased with that!

And I have gone down 2 sizes, and having fun shopping again (I used to HATE to try on clothes and look into that mirror), and today I bought 2 pairs of size 10 jeans for my January goal (the 12s I bought 2 weeks ago are already loosening, even with the very slow weightloss). The only downside is that I am spending much more money that I really should-- but I figure I get to make up a bit for years of not buying clothes because they all looked awful on me emoticon

    I really don't think a bit of protein is going to hurt in any way, With the greens out of your diet, protein is a good thing to add. It is all the rest of the stuff we eat that makes the difference. The juice fast does a lot more for us than lose weight. Down 2 sizes and the improvements in your health is wonderful. You might not be getting the big numbers that some do when they are on the juice fast, but the other results you are getting more than make up for it. And 53 days WOW..... keep up the good work. It is hard to maintain the fast this time of year. It is not so much all the food around, but the on holiday mind set is hard not to slide into. Way to go!
