2012 Photo Challenge Entry Submission

Saturday, December 17, 2011

Words rarely fail me, least of all while writing. I seem to have a knack for being able to convey my perspective clearly no matter the topic. For the first time in a long time, I'm afraid I might fail here. You see, I'm afraid that I won't be able to convey how I feel seeing this picture for the simple reason that I can't define within myself how special it is to me. It's evokes the same indefinable beauty that I have seeing a beautiful sunrise, or one of the Desert SW famous sunsets.

This photograph was taken in May - July of 2011 by Ms. Luanne Withee in her back yard. She has the singular privilege of living in a house with an unsullied view of the seasonal monsoon thunderstorms. The monsoons here are always full of beauty and wonder. This picture seems to embody that; there is a classic grace and beauty to it that evokes both the adrenaline of the storm and the wonder of the aftermath. I feel the same sensation when I look at some of the success stories in this team, and in the wider site in general. It makes me think of rewards past the trials, and how beauty can shine though even our darkest moments.

Everyone I know who has seen this picture has had a similar reaction to it. Each of us taking a slightly different inspiration from it, but all of us equally inspired by it. Perhaps we're all just similarly batty, honestly I really think it's because this is one of those singular pictures that will be remembered by those who have the privilege of seeing it. I'm privileged to have the express and explicit permission of Luanne to use the photo, and to offer it for your use in the capacity of team icon should you decide to accept it.

I really like this picture as well, and the description you gave of the picture is awesome. We do all start out stormy on this journey, and each day it gets a little easier and rewarding. I am glad Luann let you share the picture with us, even if it doesn't become the team icon it is a wonderful picture to have the opportunity to see.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'm really glad to be able to share it with you.

I can think of dozens of pesky little leprechauns that pester me on my way to that Pot'O'Gold, but I also know that I deserve my reward; not the, "I was good today so I 'deserve ' that candybar,"kind of reward. I deserve the reward of looking as beautiful as the girl whose looking out from behind my eyes, I deserve chasing my kids through tunnels on the playground without worrying about getting stuck, I deserve to look in the mirror and smile at what I see. So let the leprechauns come, I can kick them aside all day long.

I really like this picture, and I think it would make a great team icon. I totally get what you're saying about it representing the "storm" and struggle of our journeys and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that is our success and health (and this is one pot of gold that is findable and attainable, and no leprechans will get in our way emoticon )
