Medical Update

So after a one 24 hr hospital stay, and another trip to the ER with shortness of breath, I have been diagnosed with PVC's which is called premature ventricular contractions, which means my heart is beating a little more than it should. I do not have heart disease, so my condition is not life threatening. I have been put on metoprolol 25mg in a low dose to help stop the palpitations. I am following up with a cardiologist next week to find the right meds for me. Does anyone out there have my condition? I would love to hear what others are going through when dealing with this. I've been through so may ups and downs and lots of tears and frustrations. I just want to feel like myself again! emoticon

    Hi Kairis!

I have exactly the same thing.... doctor put me on Metoprolol 25 back in January, and my PVCs kept geting worse, so now I'm up to 100mg. However, since I started back exercizing, I think they are getting better, so I'm gonna see if the doctor can help me taper back down a bit (you are not supposed to stop or reduce dose by yourself). I read somewhere that Metoprolol can actually cause you to gain some weight, so I want to be on the minimum possible.

But I know what you mean - It is SOOOOO scary! I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, so it took me months to go to the doctor to get it sorted out, because I thought it was probably nothing and mostly in my head. But yeah, it got bad enough that I eventually went to the urgent care center too... thinking I was maybe having some kind of heart attack.

They also told me that it was a "benign" PVC, and nothing to worry about. That was kind of a relief in my head, but it is still scary when it happens - especially if you have a bunch in a row!

How are you coping these days? I see this was written a few months back. Are you still on Metoprolol 25? How is that working for you? Do you find that exercise helps you too? (for me, the first 10 minutes is full of more PVCs, but then my heart settles down, and I get fewer throughout the day).
