Finding the right exercise

Thursday, December 15, 2011

I read a daily spark blog post today - The Single Best Exercise for Weight Loss and it asked "What do you think? Does your exercise routine reflect the activities you enjoy doing the most? Why or why not?".

It got me thinking about what exercises I do and how I enjoy them. I always walk. It's easy and always accessible - I have a treadmill, live in an easy place for walking and have a gym membership at the Y. However, I HATE walking. It is boring, boring, boring. I use an iPod to try and help the time go by but it is all I can do to force myself not to look at the time constantly.

So, what can I do instead. Well, if I drive to the next city there is a Y with an indoor pool. Maybe I can fit some Water Aerobics into my schedule but last time I looked I couldn't. I love Yoga, but am too big to do the poses (yes I could do downward dog for the ones I can't do, but then I would be down for 90% of the session). I have exercise videos but don't really enjoy them (or they are Yoga).

A big problem is I'm too out of shape. The things I want to do are out of reach for now.

So, I'm stuck walking. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I like STBTBIC's idea of the bike...its a great workout and its much more interesting than the walking!!! Goodluck..I hope you find something the motivates you more!! Oh...and if you love Yoga..I say go right on ahead and do it...at least your trying...as you get more practice you will get better at each pose..I've seen people of all shapes and sizes do it..If its what you love I say go with what you love!!!

Bravo on your post! I am right there with you. I do know that it is best for you to change up your routine, so mine is a treadmill for a few days to exercise bike for a few days and back. Still very boring even when I'm watching TV (what I do to pass the time). I wish I had something to offer, but I am awaiting answers. Thank you for posting.
