Some life rules I have committed to observing (cliche, yes, but nonetheless sincere):
Avoid all lies, especially the lie to yourself.
Love. Strive to Love it all. Everyone, everything, every moment. If you can have even a moment of success at this each day, you can do anything!
Beauty is everywhere. Find it.
Don't forget whose life you are living. It's yours, do what you want with it.
Grades don't matter. Neither does your bank account, car, house, clothes, or anything except who you are. Anyone can buy something. Not everyone can BE something.
It is better to admit that you are wrong up front than to realize it later. Don't be stubborn.
Everyone is a stubborn idiot sometimes. Try not to feel bad. Try not to make other idiots feel bad either.
Release your anger, fear, jealousy, and hate the moment they arise. Don't allow negative emotions to control you.
Avoid all drama; you control your reaction to any given situation.
It's not a big deal, really. Whatever it is, it's not as big of an issue as you think it is.
Don't take things personally. Imagine all of the people you DON'T consider all day. Odds are, they aren't thinking about you either.
Keep animals around you. They will provide you with unconditional love, and ample opportunities to practice patience.
Practice patience. You have a limited amount of time here; don't waste it by being impatient.
You don't choose your best friends, your lovers, or your pets. They definitely choose you. So stop trying so hard.
You are beautiful.
An idealist has everything to lose, a cynic has nothing to gain. But being an idealist is just so much more fun!
Life is painful. Breathe through the pain. You are so much stronger than pain. No one knows how brave you are to just keep breathing, but you know. And that is enough.
Good things come when you least expect them. For this reason, it is important to always keep an open heart, so you can recognize them when they come.
