Because I've been in school and on a tight budget the last two months I haven't really gone clothes shopping at all. But I'm going home for Christmas and I wanted to have one or two outfits that fit well to kind of show off to family and friends. So today I went to Macy's. I LOVE Macy's. We don't have one where I live. And the selection of plus size clothes at Macy's here is like the selection of plus size clothes in every store in Alaska combined. It's wonderful. Anyway I was hoping ti would be a great trip.
So I did the usual - grabbed a few big black sweaters and grabbed a pair of jeans. Well every sweater looked weird and dumpy. The jeans fit (they were a size 24 - yay!!!) but they fit in a really weird way and made my tummy look deformed. So I decided to go back for round too. And I realized a couple of things. First I thought to myself - geez all these oversized black sweaters are doing nothing for me - don't they have any clothes that are form fitting?! Also I realized that maybe the clothes were too big. So I got some more form fitting clothes, got some smaller sizes, and got a few types of jeans. Finally I found a pair of jeans I liked, and a couple of tops. Neither of them black-oversized sweaters. So I got a jeans and two tops.
It was so frustrating until I started to let go of some of my old patterns. The truth is - stuff fits me now. I don't have to just hope to find something to fit. There are lots of options and now I actually want to find stuff that is flattering.
Well from Macy's I went straight back to school. I'm glad I got my new outfit. I forgot my umbrella and got SOAKED walking back so I changed into my new outfit. I feel good in my small jeans and small shirt (although I already discovered a little hole in the shirt - eek!). So I'm now just trying to figure out what is happening. I'm changing, exciting things are happening, and I think that next time I'll approach shopping in a way to get more things that flatter.
Plus it's always exciting to get smaller jeans - yay!!!
