Emotional Brain Training (EBT)

Saturday, December 03, 2011

I've just started a weight loss and emotion management program called Emotional Brain Training (EBT). The program provides online tools, workbooks, video training classes and teleconference sessions that help you change how you respond to stress in life situations.

I'm an emotional eater. As long as I'm operating from my rational brain, I can follow diet and exercise plans faithfully. The problem is when I get emotional and feel stressed, I try to avoid my feelings by stuffing my face. Unfortunately, it doesn't really help. Eating doesn't make me feel better, it just makes me angry at my lack of control. Emotional eating leaves me feeling defeated and depressed.

The principal exercise is "Checking In." It's described as a "two-minute vacation" in which you pause hourly, take deep breaths, calm yourself, take a look at what's going on inside, and hopefully break the stress cycle.

I'll keep you posted with my progress!

Emotional Brain Training

"Stress invades our wiring and causes 80% of health problems. What we need are skills based on brain science so that we can rewire those circuits. EBT will give you the skills and community to rewire your own brain from stress to joy."

Thanks so much for posting this! I've gotten a tremendous amount from working with EBT. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other Spark People who use EBT as well. Good luck with your journey! Laura
