Changing Life, Changing Balance

Thursday, December 01, 2011

The more I go about learning and experimenting with what a "healthy lifestyle" means to me, the more I'm realizing that it is continually shifting.

When I was at the beginning of my journey, "healthy choices" were very small changes in my life. Things like exercising twice a week--consistently--or cutting back to only ONE night of pasta or pizza per week were all big deals for me at the start. Where I was in life, those choices defined my new direction in healthy mindful living.

As I lost weight and became more focused, driven and excited about this new approach to life, I relied on tracking calories, fitness minutes, and a VERY strictly regimented exercise routine ("NOPE! NOT available that time- I go to the gym!"). I thought about my food and fitness nearly every hour of the day, and weighed-in weekly to celebrate 1-2 pounds steadily lost with each step in the right direction.

When I reached my goal, my healthy living definition became a bit more... confused?...

[CONTINUED!! Please see my personal blog shelivesfit.com/blog to continue reading. This is NOT an advertisement-- I am just beginning to shift my blogging to my own site, and what to give you an opportunity to find it if you want! If you do not wish to read it, that's okay!!]

[Also: PLEASE do not "like" this blog. Thanks!]

Kudos on your new venture! I've been away from Spark (sorry about the loss of your dog) and am just now catching-up, glad you're still at the beginning of your journey and I can follow along. I'm signed-up at the new website, good luck!

We have alot in common. My weight range is similar to yours and I have felt like that as well, "freak out" mode if I don't track for a few days or cheating due to a holiday. It definitely is a challenge to maintain but I chose this healthy lifestyle change...so here I am. Your blog was quite the relief ;) Thanks!

I am soooooo busy and a bit overwhlemd right now, but did take the time to visit your site (very nice!) and finish reading your blog, and it really hit home for me.
It's something I had sort of been struggling with myself, not even at goal yet, but after 6 months of having the "fitness goals" be so front and center I could see it was time for a shift or at least thinking about how I WOULD shift, and not sure how to go about it. Using the tools so "obsessively" wouldn't work for me everyday for the rest of my life and in the back of my mind that was scaring me! Intuiteively I knew I needed to start planning for how LIFE would look so I had enough structure to support a healthy life but not soooo much.
So reading what you had to say from your place of perspective down the road from me just a bit was really affirming and reassuring.

I also want to wish you the VERY best in your new venture - I KNOW you will be a huge sucess!!

Is this a teaser? Yes, I did go to your NEW website to read the rest. I totally agree with you that our healthy outlook changes with the ´seasons.´I am at a different place than I was a year ago or even month ago. We have to be intuitive and listen to our body and soul. I love to see your new website evolving!!! emoticon

sorry...clicked "like" before I saw not to...
anyway, I too am having trouble with the intensity of the LiveFit program...it was one of the very few to diffentiate diets between men and women...but like you said on the other half of the blog, I am not trying to become a bodybuilder or model...
Wish you "well" on your journey!!!

"I liked" your blog and I read the other one and you are a great role model. You always blog in a way that makes me think and helps me on my journey. I like when you said when you reached your goal that healthy living definitions became confused. I am not at goal weight now but have been a few times in my life and so understand this. I think you will make a great coach and if Spark was smart they would hire you to work for them.
