Why I am thankful for SparkPeople

Somewhat over 4 years ago I joined SparkPeople. I had heard of it through several members of my church, including my pastor, who was doing very well losing weight and feeling better. At the time I was definitely very chubby. The chubbiness came as a reaction from previously suddenly losing about 50 pounds in 3 months without trying and almost dying. My life was saved by emergency surgery. At that time the hospital was desperately trying to get me to gain weight. Well, I did, plus more than enough. I decided it was time to take charge of the weight and my health and get to a healthy weight.
I had great difficulty walking due to weakness, so had to build up gradually to walking a little more per week. I lost weight nicely with SparkPeople. Not real fast, but enough that I felt it was progress. Then one day, the electric shopping carts at the store were all taken, so I thought I will try to shop with a regular cart since it is almost like using a walker -- just with more weight. I was very happy that I was able to do the entire shopping trip. I was tired -- but victorious! What others might take for granted was definitely an accomplishment.
During my time with SparkPeople, I discovered it was a great tool for controlling my diabetes. I have gradually improved my A1C, and my doctor is very happy with it. Also, I can keep track of my potassium intake to make sure I am getting enough for good health with my ileostomy.
I plan to stick with SparkPeople for the rest of my life. It is a great boon to me and others -- especially since I can afford it since it is free. (Great for low-income people!)
Thank you Chris Downie (SparkGuy), and may God bless you!
