Friday morning at 1:30 AM a 24 year old young man lost control of his car and hit a car heading in the other direction head on. 5 people were killed in an instant, 2 are in a critical condition..
None of us were working, we were not on call or stand by. It was the fire brigade that got the call to move out. The accident was so bad, that they called in the priests to be there for the fire fighters.
DH told me about it in the morning, and when I saw the pictures I just thought OMG! One of them showed the speed of the Benz , broken at the moment of the impact at 80mph trying to go round a bend.
And then my daughter called. She said: We just got home form the site of the accident. We brought flowers and lit candles. All of us were there, because Roby was the driver of the Ford.
We are still reeling from the shock. He was a paramedic who taught emergency procedures at the academy and I got to know him first as a friend of DD. A couple of years ago, he got a job at our hospital in the ER, and when I came on duty at night I would always look down the ER floor and wave if I saw him. We would hug, laugh and talk until the elevator would come , just some seconds, or if he was busy, he would simply wave back. He had just turned 47.
End of the afternoon, a friend had opened a book of condolences at facebook, but made it a closed up group. Some hours later more than 170 people had added their names, thoughts, pictures and prayers to the site. And the number is still growing.
THAT is facebook at it's best.
