My P90X Story (Round 1)

Friday, November 18, 2011

I started P90X in January 2011. I had been doing 3 months of good solid running and gym workouts and was getting nowhere on the scale so I decided to give P90X a try.
I started:

115.5 lbs
28.3% body fat (put me in the "fair" category.)
(5' 0", Age 43)

When I first started, even my hair was sore! Tony really works you over in these workouts! I had to do alot of modifying (I did not use a pull up bar, I did pushups or weight resistance instead). I found that my favorite workout was KenpoX and one of the least favorites was YogaX (90 mins!).
I P90Xed 6 days a week and kept running 3-4 days a week to train for a 4 mile leg I had in an upcoming relay. I was really racking up the fitness minutes! I only missed a handful of workouts the entire 3 months and I was also following the P90X fat shredder plan pretty faithfully.
There were days I didn't want to go on. There were days the last thing on earth I wanted to do was PUSH PLAY! To be totally honest, the results were coming very slowly and I frequently got discouraged.
But. I was getting stronger and I knew it. I felt healthier. My posture improved. Even if the outward results were not what I wanted, I knew my overall health and stamina were there.
I went back to trainer anxious to get my after results, after my 90 days were up.
(Drumroll)
108 lbs
28.3% Body Fat

WHAT??? My body fat stayed the same? I just worked my TAIL off for 3 months and my body fat stayed the same? Well, it is my disclaimer here that I just don't believe this. Although a different trainer did the "after" assessment, the same machine was used. Still, I believe there HAD to be a mistake somewhere. Atleast I knew I had lost 7 lbs.
And Lost:
1.25" chest
1" waist
.5" hips
.75' thighs

After

The fact of the matter is, no, I did not get the (outward) results I had anticipated and hoped for. But, yes, I was still really fit and felt great and had alot more confidence. I was HAPPY! So happy, in fact, that I am doing round 2 now!
I lost all of my hard work after a foot injury put me down and I gained 15 lbs (2 sizes) in roughly 2 MONTHS.
I am starting over from scratch but am going to trust the program. And keep pressing play.
October 2011
123 lbs

You are awesome for doing it once, let alone twice! I hate ST and being sore, so there is no way I would do it. I have found there is a lot of variation in the accuracy of the body fat machines, maybe get some calipers and try that method? They are not much.

Good luck on the second round! Let me know how your results are. I didn't see much change on the scale or even in inches during p90X but my friend's body fat percentage scanner stated I went from 29% body fat to 25.6% so I consider that a success. I'm taking a break from P90X right now to focus on Tae Kwon Do black belt testing in two weeks but I just might start it up again and see if I can get better results the second time around. Next time I'm doing the Classic program and adding cardio. Good luck and your before and after pictures look great!

You are so tiny already! Jealous! No, wrong word, Envious! LOL

I have heard horror stories about the P90X workout routines, I remember a friend telling me about the recommended diet, and I remember thinking, "There is no way I'm throwing out a dozen egg yolks!"

He never continued with it, so I can't say what his overall results were, but I've seen many progress pic after and the results are amazing!

    Keep up the great work!

I think your results are great! Don't worry too much about the bodyfat. That means that you lost the same ratio of fat to muscle, which is optimal. Much better than losing more muscle mass. So good job on matching your nutrition needs to maintain your muscle!
