A new beginner

Sunday, November 13, 2011

I have to share this with everyone. I went to a Pamper Chef party yesterday and the consultant asked everyone there to give their name and one word that describes them in the kitchen and I said a New Beginner. I will explain this.

Before I was gluten free I did not like to cook, in fact, I cooked to just survive. Luckily my DH was not fussy as it never bothered him which was good for me.
When we worked, everyone thought that hubby and I went out a lot because I said I do not like to cook but in essence I did cook but out of sheer misery LOL.

I have been gluten free for two years and in the beginning I felt the same way and did not enjoy eating at all. Well my sister came for a visit during that time and looked around my kitchen and could not believe what I had or the lack of not having. Well she took me shopping and had me buy things like measuring cups and spoons, bowls to mix stuff in (don't laugh) as I did not have that in my house. We also bought a lot of other things that I could actually make a decent meal including a cookbook. I think that I did have some in the house but never opened them.

Well will now fast forward to now. I really enjoy cooking and baking - this is a first for me. I even made home made pies from scratch and they were actually good. I was not too sure and held my breath as they all ate it and got some great comments.

Cookbooks, well that was not in my dictionary and now I have one that are recipes that I downloaded from the websites. I even have them in alphabet order, did not get the dividers for them but that is on my next list.

I am always looking for new ways to make things, of course, I do not make anything gourmet but things that are fast and easy and actually they are really good, if I have to say so myself LOL.

I guess that I had to be gluten free to actually enjoy cooking and have been for almost 2 yrs.

I guess you can say there is hope for me after all. At least I hope so LOL.

Hey - we've stayed at your house quite a few times and we've never had a "bad meal" at your place!! And that was even before you went GF. Didn't have the chance to try one of your pies this last time cuz you weren't feeling well, but there's always next time. emoticon

Delightful blog and fun way of talking about it all - I am learning all over and actually think I enjoy it more - always a challenge to make something good from basic ingredients.

I think I wanted to learn to cook because my Mom was like you. She could literally have ruined frozen dinners when I was a kid! She too started too cook when she was GF because that was in the 80's and no one even heard of this for the most part. There were hardly any products and the bread that there was was hideous! I am glad you have learned to enjoy it I do too!

Glad you are feeling better!
