Ride Like a Kid

Thursday, November 10, 2011

My next door neighbor kid stops by every once in awhile to see if I want to play. Itís kind of endearing that a 7 year old thinks itís great to play with someone north of 40. She is a delightful person. Last weekend she got a new bike & couldnít wait to show me. At about 11 oíclock Sunday afternoon there was a knock at my door. There stood Lexi with her new bike wanting for me to ride around the neighborhood with her. I had about a million things to get done & didnít really feel up to it. But, I put all of those things aside & out we went on a biking adventure. For the next two hours we rode around the neighborhood & I saw things Iíve never noticed before. We laughed & had a great time.

That afternoon took me back to when I got my first bike. It was a used purple Schwinn from the local bike shop. I rode that thing everywhere & never took notice to how far I went or how fast I rode. Sunday afternoon made me realize that sometimes I get so wrapped up into distance, speed, and calorie burn that I lose why Iím on that bike in the first place. And, it took a 7 year old to teach me... to ride like a kid.

What a super little "Crumb-Snatcher". I certainly hope that her parents give her the attention that she deserves.

Kids tend to do things just because they enjoy it instead of because they should or what they'll get from it. They go for long bike rides, walks and just play without thinking about how far or how long they've been going
