ING NYC Marathon

Tuesday, November 08, 2011

I always have my ups and downs with working out and running, but after watching the ING NYC Marathon on Sunday and being on the subway with someone who had just completed the marathon was truly inspiring. Since I started running a year ago my end goal has been to eventually run a marathon. Eventually being the key word there. Now I have an actual goal.

ING NYC Marathon 2013

That's 2 years away and is completely doable. I might enter the lottery for the 2012 marathon and will take it as a sign if I get selected because the odds are very slim, especially considering I'll be entering in the NYC region with thousands of other crazies! But if I don't get picked for 2012 I'll be on track to run it in 2013. Guaranteed entry is 9 races with New York Road Runners and 1 volunteer within a calendar year. Basically, if I run one race a month next year and volunteer at some point (which I love any way so I'm not worried about that AT ALL) all I'll have to do is pay the entry fee and I'll be running 26.2 miles!! It seems kind of crazy since I've only run a handful of 5k's and am running my first 5 miler on Thanksgiving in the local turkey trot. But I've wanted this for a long time and putting an end date (as opposed to "eventually") makes it more of a reality!

Fantastic! I have a dear friend who is running the Philly marathon on the 20th. I'm so excited for her! She lets me run with her and I am honored beyond belief!
