I want to gain weight!

Monday, November 07, 2011

I came across this picture online earlier and it sums up everything to me about getting in shape and reaching fitness goals.

Yeah I want to see a number on the scale that I would feel good about, but I'd much rather my body look like it can do something.

Yeah it would be cool to be light enough that I could entertain the dreams of being a marathon winner like Deena Kastor or Firehiwot Dado.

Yeah it would be fun to be a small enough weight that my partner could pick me up effortlessly...

But I want a partner who is equally physically fit and has muscles and can pick me AND my muscles up, too.

And I want the curves that can only be achieved in strength training and chiseling and toning.

And I want my body to be efficient, my muscles so maintained that my metabolism keeps going to town even when I'm sitting on the couch.

I think for me, coming on Spark and getting caught up in the resources here and community brought me to a place where it was possible to show up at endurance events and test my limits and become an athlete. I gained so much metaphorically in the past couple years that I feel really good about the idea that when I finally lose the excess weight I want, gaining the weight in a way that is going to make my body more capable, stronger, sexier, is going to be even better!!

A picture is worth 1,000 words...

*Again, this picture is NOT me - I found it on the internet.

WELL SAID!!!! Though I like seeing my numbers move down, I *PREFER* to look in the mirror and see sexy muscle tone-lines starting to show!!!! I think so many people are focused on "The Almighty Scale" that they lose sight of what is 'healthier' - to be fit!!! Great blog, and thank you for spreading the good word!!

Wow that's cool! I agree, weight is a mere number.
