We need to learn to cook again America!

Monday, November 07, 2011

MIZZSB, Sabrina, found and sparkmailed this to me today - it is profound.

"Morning team!

I found this link this morning, its Jamie Oliver speaking at TED about the importance of food for our children. I was really touched by it... "

We do need to be educated about foods and cooking. Take a few minutes to watch - it's long, 20 minutes long, but so worth it. And very scary too.

**thank you - I fixed the link! I don't know what I did wrong but I think it was missing the http://

**maybe I am lucky to be "income challenged" since it means I cannot afford to eat out, fast food or slow food - both are out of my budget.

We need to choose right for our children as well. I hear and read many times where people talk about snacks and being around them, that their family is eating in front of them, or that they are upset because they can not have the same foods as their kids or hubby have. WHAT? Love your family enough to feed them healthy at least 80% of the time. They will adjust and learn also from your example. It has been a hard road, but it is changing here. Thanks Linda for a great share!

I also saw his TW show, when he was touring and trying to teach healthy cooking in US schools and kindergartens. I couldn't believe what children are eating. My mum is a chief cook in kindergarten and 80% of everything she uses is at fresh and organic. Although fast and unhealthy food is present in every corner, thankfully in schools and kindergartens there are still some quality norms.

Think my grands are okay. We were at their school last week and it was not as bad as the cafeteria when their parents were in school. But he does make a strong point!

Great blog, and great link. He is right in what he says.
I have always loved to cook and eat, of course... Now the emphasis had changed, and what is important is turning out a delicious and healthy meal. I agree with you that hearing about so many people who can't cook is an eye opener. They can always learn, as long as they have the motivation to do it.
I voted for your blog.
Take care and happy and healthy cooking,

He had a TV show. His goal was to education the school systems. He got a lot of flake and some districts refused him entry. I know this year, in my school system the entries offered students are healthier with more options. Not perfect but getting better.

I listened to all of the video and I agree, something needs to be done in the schools and homes to teach everyone how to cook and eat. I think most of the junk food eating is because we are lazy, and it's so easy to get fast food!! Just saying...

I can't open it. It gives me a message about a wrong url.
I like Jamie Oliver's philosophy. He encourages healthier eating and cooking.
Have a great week.
