Countdown to Ankle Surgery

I have 10 days left to prepare for ankle surgery. I'm really looking forward to it, and having it healed once and for all. It's been nagging me for years, but has peaked over the past 2. I'm ready for it to be fixed, so I can continue with my balanced healthy lifestyle, get back on track with cardio, daily living, and I have many plans for 2012. I'm ready to give it my all in order to be in tip top shape by April, for our vacation and beyond. It's been such a nuisance for so long, and I pray this will be the fix, so I can get on with daily life and regular exercise, but most of all, just living! Just living and exercising without pain and swelling. I even threw most of my stretched out socks away today. My husband bought me new ones yesterday, some he thought would be more comfortable. He's sooo sweet!! I'm thankful I have had time to prepare. I hope I've thought of everything.

I'm amazed at what the absence of one foot can have on life in general, as I plan for the time ahead. So many thoughts come flooding in, and I hank God I'll be out of work for 2 weeks, while I have no weight bearing activities, for about 10-12 weeks total. Presently I could spend 2 weeks just sleeping in preparation for the next two weeks!

I have a wonderful husband who will be home with me for at least a couple of days, or more if needed. He's a great caretaker, but doesn't like cooking much more than I do. So I have most of the meals planned for 2-3 weeks. Many of the meals are home cooked, frozen meals one of us can simply take out and heat up. And others will be simply Ramen (he loves), and Tuna(I love), and a couple of takeout meals will be ok too. My goals are to not gain weight during this time, but I understand healing time is not a time for being strict.

In addition, i plan some sort of upper body exercise during this time, to at least keep up the habit, and I don't want to backslide.

    That is terrific that you have a plan! It will help you to focus on healing. Are you getting a knee scooter so you can get around without putting pressure on your ankle? I love mine.
I know what you are saying about the relief of getting it over with. I got to that point too. It didn't hurt 1/2 as bad after as it did before I got it done. I am so thankful that I did it! Stay on the site a lot while you are healing, it will help you. Also: you can find seated upper body exercises on Sparkfitness - the ones you check off will pop up on your fitness tracker every other day.

    Have I missed something.......what's WRONG with your ankle? I hope you sail through this easily....and you have a real sweetie to wait on you hand and foot.
