I'm struggling!!!

Saturday, November 05, 2011

Hi Everyone. If you know me, you know I have been running for 13 weeks now and I really do love it. I run about 4-5 times per week for a minimum of 3 miles during the work week and a longer run on the weekends up to an hour. I signed up for a half marathon in May . I also watch my calories, trying to stay around 1500 per day. I have not done much strengh training or toning lately. I have been really focused on building up my running. I have noticed a little bit of slimming in my arms and outer thighs. I have not lost one single pound though! I really, really, need help losing weight/toning my stomach and getting my butt to be more toned. I look at myself in the mirror and I look good except for these two bulges of my gutt and butt!!!! I'm sitting here so depressed right now. I am letting this get me down and I dont even feel like going for my run right now. I cant get past this right now. Due to a bone spur I cant do any deep knee lunges, squats. Is there anything I can do with my running.......will adding hills tone my lower body? I started doing some planks this week for my abs. Please give me your honest opinion/advice please!

Thank you everyone for your support. I am going to add some weight training to my workouts. I guess I got carried away with my excitement over being able to run! I know I need to keep it balanced though.

I highly recommend you start adding in some weight training. Even if you have to give up one or two runs a week. That is where you will start seeing results.

So happy to hear you're sticking with the running! Anyways, your body decides where to put your fat, so your best bet is to do a combination of cardio AND strength training. Make sure you mix things up so your body doesn't get used to your workout schedule. Good luck! You're doing great already. :-)

I was a huge skeptic, and it took me forever to give it a shot...but now I'm a complete believer in weight lifting. Try incorporating two days a week of weight lifting in between your running and I bet you'll see a difference! You'll be mixing it up to keep your body guessing, and building more muscle to help you become an even better runner!!!

And even more important is that you have to stay positive and keep enjoying it...keep pushing forward girl!!!

I feel from experience....if u wanna toner tummy u goota do the situp :)
Since my marathon grainy no p90x. Aka no ab ripper
But the minute I do it I see results faster..I just can't do dual workouts now....
But bc of my bikini challenge may just do abs ripper

That is 300 sit-ups in 15 mins (7-8 moves, 25 reps each or each side

Thanks Aimless, I did just force myself to do my run. I get so mad because I see my friends and co-workers and family members just sit around and NEVER EVER excersise and here I am running 5 days a week and eating healthy and forcing myself out of bed and into the cold while they lay around and I dont even see a big difference! Thank you for your encouragement! I'm not gonna quit!!!

I am not an expert, but I would suggest doing 4 runs a week and a day of cardio to mix it up whether you do elliptical, bike, a class at your gym, etc. Throw in some weights too. I am doing 4 days a week of running, 1 day of cardio, and trying to start fitting in weights again.

If you haven't started taking your measurements, do that on your weight in day. You might be losing some inches and not realizing it. THe inch loss can happen so slowly that you don't realize it! I can look back and tell you the inches that I have lost in 3 months since I "started over" and it is very motivating to see that!

Let go of the weight loss thing and just focus on your overall fitness and confidence. I think the weight will come off when you stop stressing about it.
