Healthier Habits and Hints

Thursday, November 03, 2011

I wanted to share a few healthy habits I have found to help achieve my goals
They all deal with food - IMAGINE THAT friends! emoticon

First, are my whole grain 100 calorie bagels. I have discovered how helpful they are with food challenges. I am not the kind of person who can choke down the same tasty meal day after day, I need to savor the different textures and flavors on my tongue, while still eating healthy.

So sometimes for breakfast, I open the bagel, spread 1 tsp of crunchy peanut butter on each half, and top it off with sliced banana, pretending to be ELVIS of Course, and I have just had my grains, fruit, healthy fat, and protein, all within 300 calories. A great start to my day and not too time-consuming so I can make it, eat it, and still get to work on time!

Other times, I use left over chicken from a rotisserie chicken, open up those sacred little bagels, put on some chicken, sprinkle some cheese on top, melt the cheese, and add a slice of tomato or some chopped black olives - and I have an easy, healthy, nutritious meal quick. I add some green beans on the side or cottage cheese and I'm good to go.

Use your imagination to make wonderful tasty morsels fit for a spark queen or king. Add your favorite veggies, pizza sauce, or meat and have mini pizzas - add cheese and garlic for garlic bread - mushrooms, cheese, almonds, artichoke hearts, whatever you decide!

My latest hint I'd like to share is this, I found I can NOT keep a whole package of weight watcher ice cream sandwiches or the like in my freezer, it tempts me all day, all evening as if it's screaming come and eat me. So I know I can not buy them. But I have found if I can add the calorie count on special days, I can pick up a single serving and enjoy the ice cream treat withOUT the dreaded guilt for consuming too many of them in one day. Then there is no temptation!

I'm hoping someone out there in our SPARK world can benefit from my treasured findings; or maybe even SHARE some of their own!

    Great ideas, thanks for sharing.
I also have discovered that bulk packs are too much temptation for me... these days I am VERY careful about what I bring home because if the cravings hit, nothing much is safe! LOL emoticon

Great ideas! I am learning about not having a whole package of something at home. It seems to be better for me as well, when indulging in a small treat, to eat it outside the house. It is too easy to go back for more when its a few feet away, calling my name!

    Great ideas!
I find if I start well with a good breakfast it helps me to stay on track for the rest of the day.
I like fresh fruit, nutty muesli and natural low fat yoghurt for breakfast which I have after a good walk. I have a banana very early to wake my stomach up and give me energy - all that is about 350 cals and keeps me stuffed until lunch.

I like JOETTE's suggestion too - YUM! emoticon

Those are wonderful tips. I use quite a few of them myself. :)

My newfound favorite 100 calorie snack is: 1/2 serving (9) kelloggs all bran crackers and a wedge of laughing cow cheese.
