Raking leaves kicked my butt

Thursday, November 03, 2011

More evidence for the "change your workout every so often--keep your body guessing" campaign!

I am stiff and sore this morning! Yay! Raking leaves really did a number on my hamstrings and glutes. And I work out--hard--on the elliptical for 60 minutes 2-3 times a week! And yet, some gardening worked my muscles to the point of (good) pain.

I'm happy about this because the pain will go away, but the benefits will stick around. I'm getting stronger and fitter. And the next round of leaf raking is just a few days away, thanks to this rain. Yay! More opportunities to work out.

Put away those leaf blowers! Fall clean-up is a great opportunity to get some great exercise and help you reach your goals.

Hahahaha.....my husband and I were just talking about a leaf blower yesterday. LOL!! Raking leaves in our yard is just insane. While I enjoy the exercise, there's just way too much. We just spent 45 minutes yesterday raking leaves.....filled up about 7 bags and barely made a dent in our yard. We probably have about another 20+ bags to fill. And since we do not own a leaf blower, it looks like we are going to be getting plenty of exercise in the next week or two. :-)

That's exactly why I have been resisting my kids' pleas to get a leaf blower and a snow blower. Raking & shoveling are great exercise.

I love to rake! Gardening is not so much about planting flowers as it is yard clean up, pulling weeds, digging, raking, hauling and generally getting a work-out!
