What's been going on

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

I thought I would share with everyone what has been going on in my life so they will understand why I have not been very active. Most of you know already, but my mom was diagnosed in August with Extensive Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer. While there is no hope of a cure they are treating her with chemo and it has improved her overall health tremendously. When she came to live with me at the end of August she could hardly walk and needed help getting up and down. After the 1st chemo treatment she could not stand on her own and needed help with every aspect of her life. Now she is walking around with a walker, gets up and down on her own and is able to take care of most of her needs. Her Dr. is optimistic about her prognosis and feels she will have several months with a good quality of life. It is enough, without the treatment they felt she had perhaps a month! That was 2 months ago. We plan on enjoying the time she has with us and are not dwelling on what the future holds. It is just good that she can be with us and gets a chance to enjoy her great grand-daughter!!

Speaking of grand-daughters, I thought I would include a couple of pictures:
GG and her Great Grandma!

GG for Halloween!

    Hi emoticon ,
I'm very sorry to hear about your Mom, but happy she is doing so much better. She looks wonderful and happy in the photo. Enjoy this time together, and remember to take care of yourself also. The baby is precious! I can't believe how much she's grown.

emoticon I know how difficult it can be to take care of another person under the best of circumstances, let alone this diagnosis. I am happy she is doing better. The pictures are precious. Take care of you, too!

Thanks for posting the update. She really does look happy with the baby. Good luck to you and your family. Enjoy your time together. I lost both of my parents to cancer years ago, and I cherish every minute we had together.
