snow in october?!

Saturday, October 29, 2011

Yes it is snowing, on Oct. 29th, 2011. WTF? it's not much...just some dusting, right now I can see that it is sticking to my neighbor's roof, and some grass, but luckily not the roads. You would think I live in the Yukon or something, but nope...right outside of Philly, and its snowing. Hopefully this is an indicator that this winter is going to be intense! emoticon This weather makes me want to sit on my butt! But nope, the family I babysit for just texted asking for me to come over and watch the girls for a little (which is great, I need some money)...then after that I will come home and hop on the treadmill for about an hour. I am going to try to start my own running system again, run for 2-3 minutes, walk for about 3 minutes...repeat...it actually works...I just really need to be in the mood to run. It works wonders though, after doing this for about an hour I feel awesome! And it definitely makes a noticeable difference about after about a week or two of doing it (maybe 4-5 days a week I will do this).

On a different note...I have made a decision that I want to be a bone marrow donor for a stranger...I have been thinking about this for a while, and finally I looked up the guidelines...the only guideline I do not meet is the "being in the healthy weight category"...of course. This is great though, some more motivation! I am actually excited about this...if I could have been a donor for my own mother (I wasn't a match plus I was only 6), I definitely would have...so this is definitely something I feel I need to do to have some closure with my mother dying at the age of 32 (way too young)... and I know my dad will be very proud of me as an added side effect.

EDIT: IT IS A LOT OF SNOW, NOT JUST A DUSTING ANYMORE! I HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR WITH THE FAMILY I BABYSIT FOR...LESS THAN 2 MILES AWAY! INSANITY!

My high school BFF sent me pictures from the suburbs of Harrisburg. Looks like the Yukon! What kind of calorie burning is snow shoveling? Best of luck on the run/walk strategy. I read about that in the SP fitness section. If my knees were up to it, I'd try it. Now I just use the elliptical trainer and then the treadmill for a high intensity, low impact workout.
I want to commend you on your decision to be a bone marrow donor. My niece's life was saved as a last resort treatment for leukemia by the generosity of a stranger. A very close friend here in Japan has a son who also received a bone marrow transplant for leukemia treatment. Forget action heroes, being a donor is truly heroic.

You're not kidding - WTF? I feel the world is closing in on me - had a walkathon scheduled and I'm pretty sure it's NOT going to happen, though I haven't gotten any emails to confirm......and the amounts (yeah, AMOUNTS mentioned) are scary! So damned wrong on all levels of humanity!

Go kick a snowsculpture TODAY!
