My New Favorite Thing

Friday, October 28, 2011

I am so excited! (Yes, admittedly, it doesn't take much to get me excited...LOL)
I just discovered Fitness Maps on SP! This is officially my New Favorite Thing.

I had no idea such a tool even existed on here! SP continues to amaze me.

Anyway, I signed up for the 5K Your Way challenge, which trains people to walk a 5K in 5 weeks. This is a better fit for me personally than the C25K, which messed up my knees (I think I am carrying too much weight for that one). Anyway, the challenge comes with a Fitness Planner, which linked me to Fitness Maps.

For those of you who have not discovered it yet, you can find Fitness maps under the Fitness tab at the top of your Spark Page. When you click on it, you will see a flag at the bottom right corner which says "Map Your Route".

This is so EASY! Here's how it works: You type in your start address or your town's zip code. Then you click along streets to mark your route. As you add new route markers, the distance tallies up. I have already calculated out a mile walk for my exercise tomorrow so that I don't have to pre-drive it with my car (checking the odometer) or guess and check with my watch as I am walking (stressful for a perfectionist like me). Today when I plugged in the sixteen minutes I walked and the route I followed, I learned that I walked 0.81 miles, the speed I walked, and the number of calories I burned based on my weight!

Hmm...I wonder if I can calculate it for my dog, who ran in circles around me the whole time?

Love this feature! I have even saved mapped out routes so I don't have to keep tracking them. Also used it to map out the 1/2 marathon DH and I walked this year. Glad you found it! Good luck with your walking program! I know you can do this! emoticon

Wow! You got me interested in the Fitness Maps. I have an Omron pedometer which I love, but that sounds neat! Going there now to map our tomorrow morning's 5K. Thanks!
