Friday, October 28, 2011 Day 136
Raking Lawn 160 minutes 1,324 calories burned
Total Exercise Minutes: 160
I was dozing in the recliner when I heard a knock at the door. It was the man that does odd jobs with his wife. She was driving their pickup truck and they had wood for me. He said he had cut a tree down in his yard, but there wasn't much wood.
She backed the truck up to the fence to the back yard and they unloaded it and threw it across the fence for me. I shut Princess in the basement while I talked to them for a bit and then they left to do another job. I went to go in the basement door and it wouldn't open. Maryland is in for a Noreaster tonight. It is to rain, then turn to snow. There was nobody I could call and the dog was inside with the cat. I was stuck on the outside of the house.
I tried a couple of windows and they wouldn't open. So I went back to the door, thinking Princess had hit the dead-bolt lock and flipped it to the lock position. I pounded on the glass and couldn't see her. I tried the door once more and it opened. I hadn't locked it when I went outside, but I suppose it was sticking due to moisture.
I got the rakes-a metal leaf rake and a short-handled leaf rake, and a yard waste bag. I filled up my two empty wood boxes first. Then I put the wood that was delivered into the wheelbarrow (two full wheelbarrow loads) and took it to the stacks of wood and stacked it on the pallet of unseasoned wood, then re-tarped the wood. After that, I began raking the back yard. I worked for 88 minutes, then took a break. My husband came home and we ran the leaf vacuum on what I hadn't done. We filled three yard waste bags with leaves. It was spitting rain and the wind was up before we finished. The temperature dropped too.
We are to get 6" of snow. I wanted to get the leaves raked because I am hoping we will have an opportunity to mow the grass before Thanksgiving. We have an electric mower and can't mow when the ground is wet. I can't see the dog messes with the leaves on the ground.
We had Manwich sandwiches and baked beans for supper. My husband had to go buy hamburger rolls. Tomorrow we are supposed to clean the church building. This is supposed to be a heavy, wet snow and there are predictions of it breaking tree limbs and causing power outages. The trees haven't shed their leaves and the added weight could break off limbs. I heard squirrels after dark fighting over a leaf nest they have made in the maple tree that belongs to our neighbor.
I was out early one morning and watched as they nipped off small branches and carried them to line their nest. Usually, they like a tree with a hollow in it so they can get out of the weather and be dry. This one had hollows, but someone put cement in them. There is a black walnut tree three houses over and the squirrels bury the walnuts in my yard and eat them on the railings around the deck.
I had a good motivator today. I weighed myself naked and I am heading for the 230's. I won't count that weight, my doctor weighs me fully clothed with my clodhoppers on. I have to go back to her in December.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend.
