Hey, Goofy, I ran a mile!

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

I was inspired by Goofiernu's spectacular achievement earlier this week of running a mile, so I got on the treadmill today and said I would do the same. I warmed up for ten minutes, and then I went for it. I'll say by half a mile I was ready to quit, and my HRM showed I was at the upper end of my cardio range, but I just slowed the treadmill down a few clicks and kept plugging along. My HR settled down a bit lower, and I just stayed at it slow and steady. Soon it was 3/4, and finally 1 whole mile! What an achievement since the beginning of the year when running for a minute was a huge challenge!

I'm going to keep at it, and by next summer i really do want to be running 5Ks. I like the way running gives me goals like that to shoot for.

I cooled off walking, and then finished up with some yoga for stretching - boy that felt good. I really missed the exercise when my busy life kept me away from it the last couple weeks. It feels SO GOOD to get back into the swing of things!

My mile was slow and steady, too, about 4.3 mph. I figure I'll work on distance first, then speed, especially with the whole asthma thing lurking just around the corner.

P.S. I laughed when I saw the title of your blog! emoticon
