I planned a 10 mile run today. I got an early start and was on the road before the sun was up (despite my wife's concerns that I'd get hit by a drunk driver in the dark). The route I take is an out and back, downhill most of the way out and therefore uphill most of the way back. I was careful to take along plenty of fluids and a couple of gels. Even though this is the coolest time of day, it is still dry and in the 70s, so hydration is key. I discovered last week that I need a lot more fluid than I had thought previously, so I followed the same hydration plan as last week. Since the goal today was just to be able to do the distance and be able to do my 4:1 alternations start to finish, I didn't try to push the speed at all. The result was that I had quite a comfortable run, I was able to stay on plan for the entire distance, and I still felt good when I got home. The total distance mapped out at 10.25 miles.
I have a sprint triathlon next weekend (with some of my classmates who will be in town for our 30 year reunion), and the following week I'll try and take the distance up a little more. I'm feeling like I'm going to be well prepared for the Fiesta Bowl half marathon in December.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
