Sometimes, the Runner Stumbles

Sunday, October 23, 2011

The time we think we're the most on top of our game, can also be the time that we're the most vulnerable. Life throws us a curveball or places a slick spot on that curve toward the home stretch, and we feel ourselves spinning. Maybe, we think we hear the crowd at the finish line, but our minds play tricks on us, and it turns out that the steepest hill is yet before us. And it could be that the hardest part of that the one we need most to be running beside us, holding our hand, has already finished the race.

My friends and fellow athletes, in spite of it's times like these when we discover the parts inside us that are broken. And it's only then, can we begin to heal. I found that the words to this song by Lifehouse are appropriate for me this morning, and for any others who may need to hear them. God bless.

I have had many curve balls in my life. The major one happened when I was in boot camp for the Navy ~ I had a mental breakdown. I went through about ten years just trying to recover from that, attempted three suicides by overdosing on prescription medications. I have had two broken relationships ~ one with a girlfriend and one with my wife which ended up in divorce. I have been through bankruptcy. For the past seven years I have finally been on a decent path in my life. I have remained hospital free and actually have money saved. Also during this time I have lost over 70 pounds ~ 30 on my own and 40 with SP. I am finally satisfied with my life!
