Sparkpeople, Sparkfriends, and Spark support

Saturday, October 22, 2011

As I sit here beginning to work on the paper that I have to write for school and finishing my "sparking" for the day, I am mindful of just what an amazing place this is. The last few weeks have been difficult and surely more difficulty lies ahead but the input, support, feedback, and encouraging words that perfect strangers on this site have offered is truly a Godsend. As I reflect on the past few days, I realize just how much of a bond we all seem to have here at Sparkpeople because of our desire to be fit and healthy. That's it...that's our commonality. The irony is that society and the view on obesity, vanity, and looks has, in many cases, driven us to this place. Here, to me, it seems that we have all learned something far more important than how to lose weight or become fit. We have learned how to love. What else could it be when perfect strangers, bonded by a desire for good health, can support and encourage one another in our lives and all aspects of it? I think the founder of Sparkpeople had a vision for how he wanted to help people but I have to think that what has happened here surpasses even his greatest vision.

Thank you to but more, thank you to all of you out there that not only support and encourage me but anyone else who lives among us.

Hey Doug -- the simple answer is "you're right" about everything in your post. And one of the top reasons you are right is that people like you make posts like this :).

Can't hit the "I Like This" button enough times!!!

I so agree with you and too have found such good friendships and endless support here. It's amazing how people who never meet face to face can give so much to each other!

Good luck with your paper!
