I Blew It (For Now)

Thursday, October 20, 2011

I have been working so hard to keep my calories & carbs down and the blood surgar is not going down! I am very discouraged. So what happens? My husband brings home Mint Oreo cookies. I have not had trouble saying no to things like that. But not this time! I thought, "Well, I'll just eat 2." Yummy. Went back in the kitchen, the cookies are still on the counter, so I said, "OK 2 more." Double yummy but now I am feeling guilty. My husband stood in the kitchen talking to me and the cookies were RIGHT THERE! Guess what I did! Yep, I took 2 more, making it a grand total of 6 cookies. There were all delicious and I really needed that sugar 'fix' but I am feeling very guilty about giving in. I attributed some of my weakness to being sick with a cold. Some people call that rationalization.

I may have been weak today but I won't give up. I have got to get my blood sugar down. I refuse to go on diabetes medicine and the only way is through diet & exercise. Not with Oreo cookies! Please pray for me.

I am a 46 year old breast cancer survivor! Diagnosed Oct 2010 with Stage 1 HER2 positive cancer 6 rounds of chemo, 33 rads, and lumpectomy. I thank the Lord every day when my feet hit the ground off the bed. Early detection was very very key. You could easily feel and SEE my Skittle-sized lump with your eyes, but it did not show on 2 mammograms! (They retook the first knowing that something truly was there). I tell everyone I know to not rely solely on a mammogram; they pick up less than 60% of cancers. Rather, if they feel a lump, get it diagnostically ultrasounded and if the doc refuses, get a new doc!

My blood sugar has really gotten a lot better since I have started loosing weight. I think the exercise has really helped me a lot. I understand your pain. I would say asking people not to leave junk food laying around might help, but my husband weighs 115 pounds. Right now there are a pound of m&ms in our kitchen and the bag is open. I have been avoiding it for a week now. I can't explain how I have done it. I do know people have been praying for me. I will be praying for you! Join my Spark Team Pink if you like. We are a very small team but the other members support me everyday. emoticon

Praying for you to leave those cookies and other high carbs and high glycemic foods alone. Walking will help get your blood sugar readings down as well as blood pressure. Don't give up...YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Don't beat yourself up about your slip up. That is exactly what the devil wants you to do. Put it behind you and move on. Sometimes it takes a while for the blood sugar to get under control, But even if you end up on meds then accept it knowing that you did your best to get it under control. For some it is inevitable, but I will be praying that it comes down for you. emoticon

Today is almost over. Forgive yourself, and know tomorrow is a new day. What did you learn form your slip? There is no failure...only feedback!
The fact that you recognize the problem is proof you can not fall for the temptation again.
I'll be praying for you to have wisdom as you decide what is the best way to avoid the temptations. The REAL battle is between our ears! When we become mindful of why we eat, and are honest within ourselves, we will make the necessary changes.
We are all human, and make mistakes. The important thing is to forgive yourself and move on. Don't let the guilt tapes play anymore! So you slipped up! It is not the end of the world! You ARE strong! You have all the tools to succeed! You've come this far, and are making progress!
I am so proud of you for NOT GIVING UP!!!

Would it help to put a skull and crossbones sticker on the cookie bag? Seriously, if you've got blood sugar issues, those cookies are poison, no matter how good they taste, and they've got to be treated that way. Try doing some visualization like that putting a skull and crossbones over the image of the cookies. Another thing I've seen is taking pictures of problem foods with dirt and garbage on them. The idea is to make them unappealing.
