A Look Back @ Fab by 40

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

A little over a year ago, I joined SP and joined the Fabulous by Forty Team. It was my first experience with a team, and I was a bit disappointed when I looked at the chat boards and didn't see much activity. The posts that were there mostly said things like "Is this team even active anymore?", etc. But, something kept me from leaving.

I just started posting things. Kinda felt like I was talking to myself, but I didn't care. It just felt good to get my thoughts out. Within a couple days, people started replying to my threads. It made me smile to think someone was actually reading what I had contributed.

Then, completely out of the blue, I got a message from the Team Leader, asking me if I wanted to co-lead the team. I accepted. Within a couple weeks, that leader disappeared off of SP completely. Within a couple months, the other co-leader went inactive.

I just kept posting things. That old theme from the movie Field of Dreams kept me going... "If you build it they will come". LOL. I really thought of it that way. I started some challenges, and got a good response. More and more people started posting to the boards. The member count grew. Since my co-leader was no longer participating, I asked SASSACAIA to join me and co-lead the team. It felt good to know that I was a part of growing something.

It's been a great team. The challenges have been fun. I've learned a lot along the way. Members have come and gone, but I've made some really good Spark Friends along the way. We've seen some good success stories, and given each other support through rough times. All in all, it turned out to be just what I was looking for!

And now, I'm about to turn 40.
In 40 days, I will hit the big 4-0.
YIKES!!

I will not reach my original goal of 50-B4-40... not even close. But, I am hoping to still reach 20-B4-40! LOL. My birthday will be a time to re-evaluate goals (and change my screen name ;) and figure out where I fit in moving forward. It doesn't seem logical that the leader of a team called "Fab by Forty" is over 40, so I know it's almost time to pass the reins. I've checked out some other Spark Teams, but am just not finding anything that feels right so I'll be sticking around as a member for a while, at least. But, I know that time will come eventually and I will say goodbye to this chapter. All in all, It's been a good run!

Thank you for your leadership, encouragement, and friendship! I love the challenges and the buddy system that you have helped start. That's what has helped me to do as well as I have. By knowing that I had someone who was thinking about me and depending on me, I had the willpower to step away from the cake and put down the fork. LOL
I will hit 40 before you! HAHA I haven't reached my goal either, but I'm closer than I was before I accepted TBL challenges with the Fab by 40 group. I thank you for that!
Best wishes for these next 40 days! I know that you can do it!!

You have been such a great team leader! I will be sad when you leave the team because you are an integral part of it! But I understand that you need to do what is best for you! Thanks for making it an amazing team!

I had no idea it went like that- interesting to see the history! I am still really new to the whole message board concept... this is the first one I've done anything with. And it took me a year just to do any message board/group at all! I guess I was intimidated of the whole concept of putting myself out there for anybody to see... and fearing the unknown. Well thanks for the great blog- nice to see the history!

This, of course, makes me very sad, but it is inevitable, isn't it? I mean, all of us will reach 40 one day and then where do we go? You'll have to form a Fab by 50 team so we can all reunite! emoticon

I for one will miss your leadership - you have been an incredible leader. I only hope that I will be able to be half the leader you are! This team has increased in membership - and I know it is all because of you!

I hope you find a team you want to join, but I'm glad you're not leaving us, either!

I want to thank you for building such a great team. I didn't know the back story at all! It is funny how easy it is to take things for granted and not even realize your doing it... sigh...
I am SUPER grateful to you and the team! It helped me deal with my anxiety about turning 40 in such a productive way.

Let me know if you find any great teams! I have been looking but not having much success "moving on" from this team. There are Fab 40s and beyond teams but they don't seem to have the same "heart" that this team does!

Anyway, I think the 10 lbs at a time goal is a good one! Reevaluate at each 10 lbs and you may find you don't need to get to 139 lbs or that is may not fit your lifestyle to be able to maintain such a low weight. I have a non SP friend Jill (who loves facebook but refuses to even try SP for some reason but I digress...) you wouldn't believe is 150 lbs but she says she loves to eat and drink (cocktails) so she knows that is a good weight for her! She is building a wardrobe in that size, etc. So, basically that is my goal now!

Good luck with your goals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW- My kitty is named Romeo!!! He is SO pretty he looks like a girl but he is actually a baby boy! Cats really do grow so fast and as he is getting bigger he is starting to look more and more masculine. emoticon

And thank you for the comment on my profile pic! It was taken on my 40th birthday trip to CO and the flowers in the pic are our wedding flowers that my DH usually gets me every year. (We got married on my 27th birthday if I forgot to mention that)

I hope we stay in touch! emoticon

I love the "rags to riches" story of the Fab by 40 team! I had no idea you were the one who actually built this great team into what it is! I totally understand the feeling of "talking to myself" when posting on some teams. :-) It can get frustrating. But this one has kept me going and before you leave us, I have to say thank you!! I don't have a "goal number" by the time I reach 40, but I have changed my mindset to know that I will still be eating well, and exercising daily when I turn 40 and for the rest of my life! I know it is important to feel good, and focusing on the numbers has actually hindered my progress. So even though I won't reach it until January, I already feel like I've had a small victory, thanks to the support of this team! Thanks for all you do to hold us together!

I am almost to 40. It's just a number. I have grown so much as a woman, mother, wife, child of God over the years! I am so excited about my 40's! Sounds crazy, but I am determined to love it!

Yes... I know... I just left that team in addition to my other "almost 40" teams. Having turned 40 it just didn't seem right to stay on those... But, on a bright note... I LOVE being 40!!! Somehow it just fits. It works for me... ironically, 40 feels younger than 39... IDK why. but it just does!!!
I hope you love it as much as I do... I mean, I know it's only been a week for me, but it just works!
