Wed, Damascus to Abingdon and Fries to Byllesby Dam
Wednesday, October 12, 2011
Wed started off a bit cool, so we ate breakfast and took our time getting started. It felt good to have leg and arm warmers, and a jacket. Just 2 blocks away from the B&B and we were on the trail.
Most of the damage from the spring storms has been cleaned up and repairs completed. Except for Trestle 7. This link shows the before and after pictures of it.
They have done a great job at getting the trail opened again, but I do hope they replace the trestle.
We made it to the trail head in Abingdon, then got to ride it again back to Damascus.
Then we loaded up and headed to Fries to ride a section of the New River Trail we hadn't ridden before, Fries to Byllesby Dam. The trail runs along the river and is absolutely beautiful.
After 48 miles I was tired and ready for dinner. A quick shower, dinner at Applebee's, and I was ready for bed. Tomorrow, Byllesby Dam to Foster Falls and on to the quilt retreat.
Life is good.
