And we're back

I'm a big user of g-chat. With my work arrangement it allows me to talk to co-workers at 3 locations as well as keep in touch with my friends and husband. Occasionally I'll lose my wireless connection; when it reconnects gchat will say "And we're back"--always makes me giggle.

That's how I feel today. Back.

Back from a great vacation on Mackinac Island Michigan. Love that place. The fudge is all well and good for the day-tripper; I go for the nature experience. MI is a beautiful island for running, biking, walking or just hanging out and experiencing the beauty that is "Up North." The lack of cars is great too (Mackinac Island banned cars in the early 1900s and has maintained that ban since; all transport other than walking/biking with a few emergency exceptions is done by horse drawn cart or carriage).

While away I did something totally unlike me: I got up at sunset and went running. Usually I don't run solo and I run after work. However, I was anticipating running a 5K the Sunday we got back (more on that later) so I knew I needed to get some miles in. So I got up and ran along the coast at sunrise. It was amazing.

I also biked minimum 15 miles/day during the week and walked all over.

So when I got back, I was ready for the 5K www.thebighousebigheart.

For a life long Wolverine, there is NOTHING like running into the stadium and jumping up to hit the blue banner on the 50 yard line. Best of all I am over a minute faster than my previous 5K times this year.

I have 3 more 5Ks to go: The Spark People Virtual 5K (on my calendar for November 5), The Ann Arbor Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, and the Dexter Holiday Hustle December 3. That will complete my six 5Ks for 2011. I am really hoping I can get under 40 min. Yes, not a record setting time, but for an overweight 40 year old who has only run for 2 years, not that bad.

And I'm back into the Spark People groove. I have found in the last 6 months I need this site to keep me focused on what is good for me--and what will get me to my goals.

Yep, I'm back. Watch out.
