Missing My Brother

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

20 years ago today, my younger brother Bruce died at only 35 years of age. I miss him.

I really think after all these years that I should be over it; but, my heart still aches when I think of Bruce. Usually I deal by pushing the memories out of my mind. It's just more difficult to do that today.

Now that I've blogged, I must get back to the trying to ignore it technique. Off to find something to keep me busy. Thanks for 'listening'.

My DH lost a daughter at 6 mos, 60 years ago - you never forget and you never get over it. You just learn to live with it.

Remembering your brother is a beautiful thing - I hope you have many wonderful memories.

I don't think there is such a thing as "getting over it". I think we learn to cope. I think we go on with our lives and find ways to seek joy, but I don't think we get over it. Sometimes we just need to honor our feelings and live in that moment. If that means cry--do it. If it means go outside and scream--do it. Sometimes it is the ignoring that makes it harder to cope.

I understand some of what you're saying. I lost my brother in february and just today on the ride home from school, something reminded me and my eyes filled with tears.

I don't want to get over it---he's my brother and I love him. I can tell you do yours do.

Celebrate today--
