242 STILL

Monday, October 10, 2011

It’s been over a month since my last post. September was such a blur!

My weight hasn’t changed much since my last posts – I’m still in the 239-242 range. Currently sitting at the high end of that range. It seems that I’ve got the formula for maintaining down, problem is I’m not at goal yet!

Things got extremely busy and stressful with the purchase of a new car. We debated over doing this, especially with the economy the way it is. My car was running fine, but it was almost 10 years old and the warranty was going to be up soon. I loved my old car (2002 Sonata) but my husband was worried that it was soon going to cause us problems with maintenance. And sure enough when I took it in for an oil change they told me that some things needed attention. Nothing major yet … but hubby took it as a sign that it was time for a new car. So we went shopping around and found one I liked.

We put ourselves on a strict budget to make sure we could afford the new car payment. Haven’t had to actually budget in a while (since we cut out all the “extras” a long time ago – no cable or other upgraded TV plan, don’t have cell phones, and take lunch to work). Remembering to save receipts was a little problematic for the first few days of September.

We did get some good news last Friday – My husband just got a raise. So that should help with some of our budgeting issues. Of course we will probably just push that extra money through to retirement savings, since we don’t save enough in that area as we should.

Saw an ad on TV the other day for Tony Horton’s 10 minute trainer. I can’t afford the program – even at the “discounted special TV offer”. But it got me thinking about my workout program and if I am really getting the most out of it. I don’t do much strength training; I tend to concentrate my time on cardio only. The commercial got me thinking about looking into moves that could combine both cardio and strength training – without needing a lot of equipment. So as soon as my internet is fixed at home (it’s been down for a few days) I’m going to do a web search for combo exercises and see if I can’t find something “similar” to the 10 minute trainer program.

I think that being able to maintain is half the battle. What good is it to lose the weight and then just gain it back again? So now you know that you have that part of the battle figured out. Actually you have both parts 'cause you took off alot of pounds to get here. So see, you can get the rest of the way to your goal! emoticon

I know what you mean about the strength training. I know I should do it but I never do. I recently decided to really put the effort in to incorporate some into my routine. Maybe that will make the difference. Good Luck!
