Did we really run the same race??!!

Monday, October 10, 2011

Just wanted to let everyone know about my 5K and thank everyone who cheered me on !! I was pretty excited about the race with 5 other family members and one good friend running as well. It's a 5K race down the center of town where my family is from! 900 runners/walkers this year, truly an amazing sight! The weather got warm quick and was running into the sun the whole way out. it was an out and back course so of course with me in the back of the pack I was able to see the first runners coming back! Wow! It was not my best race but I can only blame myself for not pushing the weeks before to get myself conditioned for this distance. I was thinking about this yesterday everyone time I took the steps and paused from the muscle twinges I got from Saturday! I came to the realization I still think I'm one of those cheerleaders on the side shouting encouragement to all the participants. I love the feel before the race chatting with everyone , the music and all the camaraderie that you feel but I think I have failed to let myself become an actual runner even though I have done a handful of 5K's! I've always been at the back and have accepted that but no more! I plan on training for my Turkey Trot for November 19 like I have never trained before! It's not like I don't like to see the first place runners but to have the 1st place guy finish when you're at 1.2 miles into the race does make a person pause and really think either I'm crazy or just having a good time!! My next race is set;, I plan to have a good time but maybe at a little faster pace!!

train safe and don't push too hard that you end up hurt. your goal is to finish races healthy and have fun doing it, if you take the fun out then then they become really hard. training is great as long as you still love to run. now with that said, halhigdon.com has some great training plans if you want to push harder. speed will come with conditioning and running you longer runs on the weekend. your doing great, be proud of yourself

Be proud that you completed the race - lots of people don't get up off the couch to do that much. Next time you'll do better - that's what it's all about. Can't wait to hear how the Turkey Trot goes :)
